Hey, sister! Welcome back to a Taylored Adventure to Happiness. If you are new, welcome! If you are a regular, I love ya, I love ya, I love ya!
How are you feeling about your year so far? Are your New Year’s Resolutions a long lost thing of the past, or are already onto a new set of goals because you crushed the first set? I think we can all agree that this year has been CRAZY and nothing like we expected it to be. At the beginning of the year, I shared the five questions that I asked myself to set my 2020 goals and intentions. These goals and intentions turned out to be aligned, abundant, and high vibe AF.
After opening enrollment for Ascend and its positive reception far surpassing my expectations, it occurred to me that those goals I set at the beginning of the year have steered me well even though COVID-19. So while it might seem weird to share my goal setting system in the last quarter of 2020, that’s exactly what I’m going to do, and here’s why:
I don’t think goals and New Year’s resolutions are about setting 30 goals and hustling our brains out. I think it’s about (or should be about) reminding ourselves of who we are and who we’re becoming so that we can be more intentional with how we spend our time.
We might be in the last quarter of 2020, but 2020 isn’t over yet, sister! That’s why I’m so excited to share today’s message with you. You don’t have to throw in the towel, so to speak, for this year. You don’t have to give up on your goals that you felt so optimistic about ten months ago. Sister, you can still end this year with a BANG!
So if you’re reading this thinking, “The goals I set at the beginning of the year are completely unraveled, but I’d really like to find a way to finish this year strong,” this content is for you. These five questions aren’t just about big-picture dreaming and maximizing potential. They’re about aligning with who you are at your core, healing parts of you standing in the way of what you want, and patiently but intentionally pursuing the things that matter most to you.
Ready to dive in? Let’s go!
#1. Abundance Goal-Setting Question: What healing needs to take place before I can step into the next level of myself?
I bet you didn’t see that question being part of goal-setting. Are you thinking, “Aren’t goals supposed to be about moving us forward?” You’re right. So, stick with me. This question is a more actionable step than you may think.
If we want to level-up ourselves in any area — professionally, relationally, spiritually — we’ve got to make sure that we get rid of anything weighing us down. Imagine it like this: You’re wearing a backpack full of heavy things. Up ahead, you can see that there’s a bouncer at the door of your next level. When you approach, he says, “Yo, sister, what’s all that shit you got in your backpack? That can’t come in here.”
In the game of life, we’re going to have to confront anything that doesn’t serve us.. We can choose to work through them as part of our journey, or the bouncer will stop us and make us confront them. Asking ourselves, “What healing needs to take place before I can step into the next level of myself?” is the first step to confronting the things that aren’t serving us. Doing that work allows us to receive abundance and step into the next level of ourselves with ease.
If you want to live a life where receiving abundance and stepping into your highest self is easy, here are two things I want you to do:
- Write down a few areas you need to heal to get to the next level of yourself.
- Now go back through that list and write down the tools you need to heal. This may mean hiring a money mindset coach or a childhood trauma therapist.
Just like that, you’ve identified the areas that you need to heal and made an action plan to create space for you to receive abundance and step into your next level! If there’s only one thing you take away from this message, let it be this: Identify the areas you need to heal and take action to heal them!
#2. Abundance Goal-Setting Question: Who do you want to become in the next three to 12 months?
For this question, I want you to get crystal clear about who you want to become. “I want to become a millionaire” is too vague, and so is, “I want to make five-figures in my company” and “I want to become an author.” Those are all titles and achievements. What I want to know is the kind of person you want to be. In other words, if I met you and never learned about how much you earned or what you did for a living, who would I get to know?
For example, “I want to become someone who only does things that align with my true self and feels good. I want to become someone that people love to be around. I want to become that person who has the Instagram page people come across and think, ‘I want to work with her.’”
The key to manifesting any of our desires is embodying the version of ourselves who already has those qualities. To do that, we need to know what exactly we’re trying to represent.
Here are five journal prompts to help you discover who you want to become:
- What does she look like?
- How does she act?
- What does she wear?
- Who does she hang out with?
- How does she think about herself?
How many pages did you fill with your answers? I hope you said more than one page. For me, it was a solid two and a half pages.
Now that you have that written out, stop waiting to achieve your goals so that you can be happy or feel worthy. Just step into that version of you. If you want to be someone who handles their money well, start living within your means today and saving 10%. If you want to be someone who is happy, start smiling at people at the grocery store and thanking the cashier for ringing up your food.
Babe, be that person now that you want to be. Own that version of yourself and live as though you are already worthy, beautiful, and enough because you fucking are!
#3. Abundance Goal-Setting Question: What are two tangible goals that you would love to see come to fruition?
Guess what, sister? There’s a reason most of us don’t achieve any (or very few) of our goals each year. We set too many! I know. I used to fall victim to setting ten fucking New Year’s goals, also. By the time May hit, I was so far away from reaching the goals I gave up on most of them. I set fewer goals now, and I achieve more than ever!
It turns out, our mind only focuses on one thing at a time, so when we have ten goals, it doesn’t know where to start. Instead of tackling one at a time, our brain gets overwhelmed and tackles none. So for the last few years, I’ve only set two tangible goals. That’s it. And here’s the beautiful thing, when I complete those two goals, I get to set two more! Eventually, I accomplish a lot more than two goals a year.
After all, time is an illusion. It’s not linear. When we put ourselves in a box of “we only have one year to get our ten goals done” It feels defeating and low-vibe. Instead, two tangible goals feel freeing. It’s enough of a challenge to excite me but achievable enough to keep me motivated.
So, write down two things that you would love to accomplish. And then review them with these two questions to make sure they’re tangible:
- Is your goal specific? “I want to travel” is not a specific goal. “I want to travel to three countries in the next three months” is a specific goal because you know what travel means to you and when you want to have it accomplished by.
- Are they high-vibe? Meaning, are you excited about accomplishing them, and do they connect to the things that are most important to you?
Sister, here’s to setting fewer goals that are super important to us and getting more done!
#4. Abundance Goal-Setting Question: What three things need to be implemented to become the next version of yourself?
Getting to the next level of yourself requires a transition. In many cases, it’s a transition of learning things you don’t know. Sometimes it’s simply the transition of being accountable to do the things you know you should be doing. Think about it — the only reasons you aren’t where you want to be yet is because you don’t know what you need to know or aren’t doing what you know needs to be done. So, now that you know your specific goals, you need to get clear on what three things you need to transition into the next level of yourself!
Let’s say your goal is to leave your nine-to-five job and turn your side hustle into your full-time gig. What three things do you need to make that transition? Is it hiring a business coach, working with a money mentor, joining a mastermind, identifying your niche, or getting a certification to give you more credibility in your field?
Personally, I’m always investing in Dr. Joe Dispenza’s work because he’s my teacher and mentor. I’m constantly on the lookout for ways I can fill my toolbox with the knowledge and skills that my highest self would have. More often than not, this means I’m making a financial investment. But that’s not something I want you to be afraid of. I actually want you to welcome it because growth requires investment.
I promise that’s not just a cheesy saying that people say to get your money. No, we invest in order to grow because we don’t want to learn everything the hard way. Instead of falling on our face every day and most likely giving up, we invest in the people who have arrived where we want to be so that we can learn their tools and get where we want to be faster.
This is exactly why there’s continuously a wait-list for one-on-one coaching with me. People see the life of abundance, alignment, ease, and fun that I have built for myself, and they want it. To get the tools I used to create this life, they know they need to make an equal exchange of energy — them giving me money and me giving them my tools. You can’t expect to get free shit and then get the results you want. That’s just not how the Universe works.
So, as you get clear on the three steps you need to take to transition into the next level of yourself, know that you’re going to have to put energy out there, which is often money. That’s not something to be afraid of. It’s something to look forward to. More importantly, you deserve to get to the next level of yourself, even if it requires a financial investment.
#5. Abundance Goal-Setting Question: What three habits need to be taken on to make this version of myself truly come to fruition?
Have you ever stopped to realize how many of the things that you do each day are habits? You don’t even think about doing them. You just do them. Those habits, the things we routinely do almost without thinking, are the things that make our life. If you want to level-up yourself, if you really want to achieve those two aligned goals you wrote down, you need to start incorporating some badass habits.
The number one habit I chose to cultivate for 2020 has been gratitude. When I felt fear, I would drown it with gratitude. Instead of being frustrated that produce is pricey, I decided to be grateful that I can buy fresh produce. That’s a habit that aligns with my desire to be the kind of person who does what feels good and others love to be around.
Another habit I’m working on is eating less sugar. This goal isn’t like the classic New Year’s resolution, “I’m going to give up sugar or caffeine,” for two reasons. One, I’m choosing to have less sugar, not get rid of it. Secondly, I’m not choosing less sugar because it aligns with the next level of myself. In other words, choosing less sugar has a powerful “why” behind it.
When I consume a lot of processed sugar, I feel lethargic, which keeps me from showing up as my highest self. I keep showing up, but it’s 1% less than my highest self because that little bit of me is sluggish from the sugar. My highest self is an epic fucking leader, and she inspires thousands and thousands of women around the world — she’s not 1% lethargic because of sugar! Also, the book I know I’m destined to write can’t be written if there’s even one external thing dragging me down. So, I choose to make sure that I am a clear vessel, which means less sugar.
That powerful “why” is what makes habits stick and empowers you to step into the version of yourself that you want to be. Sis, as you implement these goals and habits, give yourself grace and extra love. Hustling and perfection isn’t the goal. Heart-centered and intentional growth is the goal. So, give yourself the gift of knowing that you are doing the best and that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
