Hi sister! Welcome back to another episode of a Taylored Adventure to Happiness. If you are new, welcome! If you are a regular, you know I love you!
As always, I’m excited to share with you tips on how to rewire your brain for success and start living your life. I am overjoyed to inspire you to grow spiritually through my conversations with other experts on self-growth and being your higher self!
Today, I’m super fucking pumped to share a spiritually enlightening conversation with my friend/soul brother, Nick Onken. We go deep down some crazy fun rabbit holes, involving a wide range of topics, including conspiracy theories, improving your immune system, and engaging with your inner creative goddess! You’re not going to want to miss this one!
There’s so much to unpack in the world around us that it can be incredibly stressful engaging with our creative and spiritual selves daily. It’s extremely important that we continue working on ourselves and our creative sides — even during a time of economic uncertainty.
Nick gave great insight into traversing the landscape of the changing world when it comes to creativity. His helpful insights will help you dive into your creative hobbies while also staying in a positive spiritual space. Let’s dive in!
A Bit About Nick Onken
Nick Onken is a world-renowned photographer and a creative entrepreneur, and he hosts the NIONradio podcast. He has photographed several famous personalities, including Justin Bieber, Tom Hanks, and Jessica Alba. His photography work appeared in the Huffington Post and MTV.
On top of all that, he even manages to operate a hat company! For those of you who follow me on Instagram @iamtaylorsimpson, he created my infamous unicorn hat. If you’re not already familiar with it, it’s a navy hat with glitter and vintage unicorn pins. Everywhere I go, people ask me where I got the hat, and now you’re going to hear from the creator himself!
Living an #AbundantAF Life
Before I went too deep down the rabbit hole with Nick about conspiracy theories, I asked him what living and abundant life means to him:
“Living an abundant life comes from within and really embodying … giving and receiving energy, which is something that I’ve had to really practice because I grew up in a … very scarce environment, very scarce upbringing, very scarce programming, and so I myself have been working to reprogram that over … many years, especially being an artist and being a creative … that’s like a whole ‘nother level of living in abundance and living in a space of that because it’s like dramatically uncertain.” – Nick Onken
Nick talked about how important it is to live an abundant life — especially during these uncertain times of COVID-19. He started Deepak Chopra’s 21-Days of Abundance Meditation Challenge last week and is already seeing positive results:
“I’ve never done it before. And somehow it just [seemed] like [it] was the right time. I learned that, and it’s been amazing” – Nick Onken
He stressed the importance of developing different spiritual practices like breathwork and Joe Dispenza meditations amidst the uncertainty surrounding the global pandemic. Both are essential for de-stressing yourself daily so that we can be happier and overcome our fears during this difficult time.
Down the Conspiracy Rabbit Hole
Nick and I had such a fun time going down different conspiracy rabbit holes. I asked him specifically about the possibly harmful nature of 5G towers and their relation to COVID-19. He had an enlightening perspective on how even though it’s not the cause of COVID-19, the radiation emitted from 5G towers could hurt your immune system, which would make you more susceptible to COVID-19.
He also observed that the pandemic fear-mongering itself could play a factor in spreading the virus.
“Like fear is almost a bigger virus than the Coronavirus because … it’s paralyzing and … it kills your immune system … The whole idea of how fear, stress, anger, all these like lower vibrational, emotional frequencies will really wreck your immune system … and it fuses toxic chemicals into your body constantly, and so if you’re living in that space — especially with this thing going around — you’re way more susceptible to it.” – Nick Onken
Y’all, I know that you know this feeling well. All the negativity being transmitted from the media — hurting our overall emotional and spiritual wellbeing. It is infectious because it can fill us with toxic energy and make us more susceptible to physical and spiritual harm.
Ultimately, we need to take care of ourselves and take action and control our wellbeing. Nick explained that simply taking care of ourselves can go a long way in getting through this period, and I completely agree.
“If we can … start to learn how to take care of ourselves through meditation, eating well, taking vitamins, working out, doing all the things … ‘cause we can only do what we have control over … our decisions.” – Nick Onken
We continued discussing the various day-to-day uncertainties of life through our mutual appreciation of the documentary Out of Shadows. Sister, if you haven’t seen this movie, I cannot stress enough how essential it is to watch it. I’ve been raving about this movie on Instagram, so you better go fucking watch this thing. It will blow your mind.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but it’s all about the people working behind the scenes controlling the media that we consume. It’s basically mind-control. Nick had a great point about how hard it is to know what’s going on with the tainted news media outlets.
“… especially over the last few years, you need to question everything … left news, right news, middle news, every news … Then you see how all the news channels … are all owned by the same three companies, and they’re being directed by the CIA.” – Nick Onken.
We went on to go even deeper down the rabbit hole with the discussion of a 10-part documentary on Youtube titled Fall of Cabal that touches on similar themes as Out of Shadows. A recurring theme Nick emphasized through this whole discussion of the various conspiracies floating around is how it’s challenging to tell what’s going on. We have to take in different perspectives and develop our viewpoint.
“And like now we have a paradigm … where we can get this information … how much of it’s true? Who knows? Like take it with a grain of salt, connect the dots for yourself, read all … [the] angles and perspectives to get your perspective, I would say.” – Nick Onken
He has a great point — we need to be taking in a variety of different perspectives and scrutinize the information that we hear to distinguish what information is trustworthy. If we get all our information from only one source, then chances are, we’re being manipulated.
Nick also went on to explain that even though a variety of information is available, there will always be a degree of uncertainty in the truth:
“I think the more comfortable we can get with that uncertainty and … doing what we can to create ourselves to the most optimal, creative, aspirational, beautiful life that we can … and that also means that giving to others, making an impact, creating … we keep it taking care of this — this space that we were given — and … taking care of yourself, exercise, meditation, de-stressing … [and] having great relationships with people, and then obviously making money and abundance and … being able to fund the life that you want to live.” – Nick Onken
The most important thing we can do is accept the inevitable uncertainty and create the life we want to live. What is your truth? What do you believe? Ultimately, we have to think for ourselves.
Growing in Your Soul’s Purpose While Improving Your Immune System
Now more than ever, people are going through different shifts in their lives and looking inward to find the inner purpose of their souls. I asked Nick how he taps into his soul’s purpose amidst the energetic and physical confines we find ourselves. He describes how we need to shift away from our survival state caused by fear and shift into our proactive creation state. He gave practical advice on what we can be doing to overcome fear:
“So things like meditation … I’ve practiced Vedic meditation for the last … five years as just like a regular staple. Twenty minutes … [every] morning … and then after the 20 minutes, that’s like a mantra-based meditation, and then I do probably a few minutes of gratitude practice just because that creates an emotional shift … and a state shift … how you kind of start the day. And … then I work out … [with] movement yoga.” – Nick Onken
Something Nick does flawlessly that we can all learn from is utilizing the space that we have to take care of ourselves. Use all the space that you have during this time of quarantine and social distancing to help tap into your soul’s purpose. Don’t let the confines of your structure limit you, but use every inch of the space to take care of yourself. Nick excels at gathering different perspectives on health and strengthening our immune systems. He specifically praised Danielle Shine (@chef_shine) for being his health oracle and recommending Lipo Naturals Liposomal Vitamin C, which helps strengthen the immune system.
Nick also praised the role meditation plays in keeping us healthy. He recommends “De-stressing your nervous system on a daily basis,” and engaging in breathwork. It also helps get out of your head and avoid being overcome by fear so that you may more proactively engage in creating the life you want to lead.
Playing with Your Creativity
Even though Nick is super successful, he has still undergone the same professional and financial stresses that have been hurting countless people, both spiritually and physically. After his photography shoots were all canceled because of COVID-19, he had to ask himself what else he was good at to make money and how he could evolve his trade. Nick evolved his trade by doing photo sessions over FaceTime.
We all have to get creative during these complicated times to evolve our professions or begin to tap into other ways of making money, but it’s also important to recognize that it’s okay if we’re creating something new that we can’t turn it into a business just yet. Nick recommended simply exploring your creativity before trying to monetize it.
“Just like keep playing … and be okay with that, play with it. And then … try to make some money with it … Turn it into a business structure, but just like play with it for now, so you understand it. And you’re … being in the flow; you’re being creative. And now I’m in the process of like, ‘Okay, how can I structure this?’ Because I’m having a lot of fun with it, and so I think it really is about allowing yourself to play to really figure it out.” – Nick Onken
It’s easy to be uneasy with our situations right now with the economic implications of COVID-19, but the most important thing is to love yourself and tell yourself that it’s okay to create and experiment with new things even if it’s not for profit yet.
Nick drew the connection between making an impact and engaging in creation:
“Never stop creating ‘cause that is like the key is to be in a space of creation. And that means creating yourself, creating your art, creating your impact, creating everything, creating your meat suit. You’re human. You know, I think we are spiritual beings having human experience. The more optimal you can make your human, the more optimal, the bigger impact you can create in the world. But that takes a proactive mind and a proactive choice of choosing to create.” – Nick Onken
Sisters, we owe it to ourselves to be tapping into our inner creative goddesses. When we work on ourselves and choose to proactively create, then we are preparing to make an impact on both the world around us and ourselves. I hope this episode empowers you to never stop creating!
